In this study, researchers noticed that samples supplemented with Lactobacillus Plantarum have less fluctuation in pH levels during the fermentation process and contain some unique flavor compounds (acetaldehyde and acetate). 

More research is required to understand Lactobacillus Plantarum’s effect on yogurt fermentation completely.

Another common name for Lactobacillus Plantarum is Lactobacillus arabinose. Interestingly Lactobacillus arabinose was also the former name of Lactobacillus Plantarum.

A 2019 study showed that a four-strain probiotic administered orally to patients containing Lactobacillus Plantarum reduced the symptoms and prevalence of SIBO.

Research has shown Lactobacillus Plantarum can colonize the gastrointestinal tract by increasing the population and sustaining health-promoting bacteria, and it may also be to restore microbiota-host symbiosis.

Can Lactobacillus Plantarum be used to treat IBS?

Lactobacillus Plantarum can be used to treat IBS. A 2012 clinical trial showed that patients who were administered Lactobacillus Plantarum 299v orally in capsulated form reported effective relief from symptoms of IBS, mostly a reduction in abdominal pain. 

Another study showed that Lactobacillus Plantarum CCFM8610 alleviates IBS pain and prevents gut Microbiota Dysbiosis.

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) commonly affects the digestive system. It is usually caused after severe diarrhea, and its symptoms include stomach cramps, abdominal pain, bloating, and constipation.

Can Lactobacillus Plantarum be used with Histamine intolerance?

Lactobacillus Plantarum can be used with histamine intolerance as it is histamine-reducing probiotic bacteria. 

Research involving wine fermentation showed that Lactobacillus Plantarum was also able to degrade histamine.

Taking the wrong probiotic with histamine intolerance may cause bacterial imbalance in the gut, leading to various symptoms, including headaches, nausea, diarrhea, and bloating.
