The following are some benefits of Bifidobacterium Bifidum:
- Decreases the symptoms of IBS: Studies show that Bifidobacterium Bifidum can lower the symptoms of IBS. In a trial involving 120 patients, researchers supplemented 60 people with B.Bifidum while the rest received a placebo. The 47% of the supplementation group reported a significant decrease in the symptoms as compared to the placebo group.
- May improve Immunity: A study indicates that Bifidobacterium Bifidum may improve and modulate immunity. The study suggests that the probiotic stimulates innate immune mechanisms by activating white blood cells to defend against infection.
- Skin conditions in the newborn: A trial suggests that consumption of B.Bifidum and other probiotics by pregnant women decreased the occurrence of eczema in newborns.

Bifidobacterium is primarily found in the human gastrointestinal tract where it stays without moving since it is a non-motile bacteria. They also grow in the intestine without any need for oxygen given they are anaerobic.
They exert their function of breaking down dietary fibers into short-chain fatty acids in the intestine. Short-chain fatty acids are used as an energy source for the body, mainly for the muscles, kidneys, brain, and heart. Bifidobacterium also plays a part in the synthesis of vitamins B and K.

Bifidobacterium Bifidum mimbb75 is a probiotic strain that has been found to be effective in the treatment of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).
In a randomized clinical trial spanning 20 study sites, researchers administered non-viable, heat-inactivated Bifidobacterium Bifidum mimbb75 to patients suffering from IBS. The patients received either a placebo or the probiotic supplement once a day for 8 weeks. After the trial, the group receiving the probiotic supplement reported a significant reduction in IBS and its symptoms.
